Environmental Sustainability & Energy Efficiency Policy

At CHECKMAT WATERFORD, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact through practical, measurable, and sustainable improvements to the operation of our training centre.

As a strength training and martial arts facility, we recognise our responsibility to operate our premises efficiently while reducing unnecessary consumption of energy, water, paper, and other resources.

Our environmental policy focuses on energy efficiency, resource conservation, waste reduction, and the responsible management of our facilities.

1. Reduction of Paper Consumption

CHECKMAT WATERFORD has significantly reduced its reliance on paper within our facilities.

In particular:

  • We no longer use disposable paper towels for hand drying in our bathrooms.

  • We encourage digital communication and administration wherever possible.

  • We continuously review our operational procedures to identify further opportunities to reduce paper consumption.

This reduces the amount of waste generated by the facility and lowers our ongoing consumption of natural resources.

2. Elimination of Gas Heating

Our facility does not use gas-based heating.

By eliminating the use of gas heating, CHECKMAT WATERFORD reduces its dependence on fossil-fuel-based energy within the premises and avoids the associated gas consumption and emissions.

Where heating or climate control is required, we seek to operate our systems responsibly and efficiently.

3. High-Efficiency LED Lighting

All lighting throughout CHECKMAT WATERFORD has been replaced with high-efficiency LED lighting.

LED technology significantly reduces electricity consumption compared with conventional lighting systems while also providing longer operating life and reducing the frequency of replacement.

This investment forms part of our ongoing commitment to reducing the energy demand of our premises.

4. Occupancy Sensors in Changing Rooms

We have installed occupancy/presence sensors in the changing rooms to automatically control lighting.

The system helps prevent lights from being left on unnecessarily when areas are unoccupied, reducing avoidable electricity consumption.

This is particularly important in areas where lighting may otherwise remain switched on for extended periods.

5. Maximising Natural Light

CHECKMAT WATERFORD makes use of natural daylight through polycarbonate roof panels/skylights within the facility.

This allows natural light to illuminate areas of the training centre during daylight hours and reduces the need for artificial lighting.

By making better use of available daylight, we reduce electricity consumption while maintaining a comfortable and functional training environment.

6. Continuous Environmental Improvement

Environmental responsibility is an ongoing process at CHECKMAT WATERFORD.

We regularly assess our facilities and operating practices to identify opportunities to:

  • Reduce electricity consumption;

  • Reduce waste;

  • Minimise the use of disposable materials;

  • Reduce unnecessary resource consumption;

  • Improve energy efficiency;

  • Make responsible investments in our premises and equipment.

We believe that sustainability is achieved through practical actions and long-term improvements rather than simply through statements of intent.

The measures already implemented represent genuine investment in improving the environmental performance of our premises and reducing unnecessary operational consumption.
