Uniform & Hygiene Policy

At Checkmat Waterford, we are committed to providing a clean, safe, and respectful training environment for all members. Good hygiene and proper uniform standards are essential for the health, safety, and comfort of everyone in our academy.

All members are expected to comply with the following policies.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Gi & No-Gi)

Personal Hygiene

Before every training session, members must:

  • maintain good personal hygiene.

  • Keep fingernails and toenails short, clean, and neatly trimmed.

  • Cover any cuts, abrasions, or skin injuries.

  • Refrain from training if they have any contagious skin condition, illness, or infection. Members should seek medical advice before returning to training.

Gi Requirements

  • Only white gis are permitted during Gi classes.

  • Gis must be clean and freshly washed before every training session.

  • Gis must be in good condition and free from tears, holes, or damage.

  • A rash guard must be worn underneath the gi at all times.

No-Gi Requirements

  • Members must wear an appropriate rash guard and grappling shorts without zippers, buttons, or exposed metal or hard plastic parts.

  • No-Gi Clothing must be clean and freshly washed before every training session.

Team Uniform Standards

As a team, we value unity, professionalism, and discipline. Our academy's identity is an important part of our culture.

  • Uniforms displaying patches, embroidery, or logos from other Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teams, associations, or clubs are not permitted.

  • Only uniforms representing our team are permitted for our members.

Uniform Cleanliness

  • All training uniforms must be washed after every training session.

  • Dirty, unwashed, or foul-smelling uniforms will not be tolerated.

  • Members wearing unclean or unhygienic uniforms may be refused entry to class.

Training Area Rules

  • Food is strictly prohibited inside the training area especially on the mats.

  • Shoes worn outdoors are not permitted on or around the mats.

  • Members must remove outdoor footwear before entering the training area and change into clean slides, sandals, or flip-flops.

  • Footwear must always be worn when off the mats, especially when using the bathrooms, to help prevent contamination of the training surface.

  • Water bottles must be kept closed when not in use and should not be left on the mats where they may create hazards.

Strength & Conditioning Equipment

To ensure a safe and hygienic training environment, all members using the gym equipment must follow these standards:

  • Arrive clean and in appropriate training attire.

  • Bring and use a clean towel during workouts whenever possible.

  • Wipe down every machine, bench, barbell, dumbbell, or piece of equipment immediately after use using the cleaning products provided by the academy.

  • Return all weights, plates, dumbbells, kettlebells, and accessories to their designated storage areas after use.

  • Report any damaged or malfunctioning equipment to a staff member immediately.

  • Do not use equipment if you are ill or have a contagious condition.

  • Do not leave excessive chalk, sweat, or personal belongings on equipment or walkways.

  • Wear appropriate athletic footwear while using the strength and conditioning equipment.

  • Food is not permitted in the training area. Water is encouraged and should be kept in sealed containers.

Compliance

These policies exist to protect the health, safety, and training experience of every member.
Failure to comply with any of the above rules may result in Being refused join our sessions.
